It burns, it twists, it rips me apart from inside Reaching deep within me like a vicious claw This pain filled night seems unending I await desperately for some brief respite Barely sensing the tears running down my face As the agony continues My skin glistens with sweat as another wave strikes Seeming to wring every drop from my body Blood, sweat, tears, its all the same now Relief lies elusively just beyond my grasp Like words I can sense on the tip of my tongue But pain isn’t done with me yet This battle is old and my adversary is fierce The rules of engagement always stacked against me Yet still I continue to fight The grip suddenly begins to loosen its hold And pain starts to ebb like a wave from the shore My relief is once more in sight As it departs, it whispers once more in my ear And says in a voice as old as time itself "I'll be back before you know it" As I pick myself up from the depths of despair From ashes I rise once more like a Phoenix Knowing that now I am stronger
